The paper is a phenomenological reading of Something to crow about : collection of short stories (2003), by National Artist for Literature Alejandro R. Roces. This paper will explore the greater scheme of things or what Robert Magliola calls the fictive universe that encapsulates this collection of Roces\u27 short stories. Drawing from the ideas of Georges Poulet and Joseph Hillis Miller, the paper studies what in Joseph Hillis Miller\u27s words is something that persists or that impalpable organizing form in Roces fictive universe. The paper then examines how this persisting element in Roces\u27 fictive universe is related to his vision of his social world
