The potential use of locally available root crops as component of the tissue culture media for Pleurotus species

The potential of using locally available root crops such as gabi, sweet potato, cassava, and yam as main component for media for preparation for Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus sajor-caju was determined. Based on the growth rate and the dry weight (g) of mycelia, Cassava Dextrose Agar (CDA) was found to be a more suitable substitute of PDA for Pleurotus ostreatus, and Gabi Dextrose Agar (GDA) and Yam Dextrose Agar (YDA) are both suitable for Pleurotus sajor-caju
