One of the factors that hinder the wide scale adaptation of solar dryers is the cost of the solar collectors. In 1991, a low cost but efficient solar collector was developed. Unglazed transpired collectors (UTCs) since then have gained popularity in building heating applications. Its potential for solar drying applications has also been recognized with the development of large scale systems in Canada and United States. It is now currently being explored for small scale drying application in the Philippines. This study focuses on the development of the UTC system performance curve of a solar dryer to be installed in Palawan which would serve as basis for its design.
