Relation of locus of control, study habits and academic motivation to academic performance: Applied to vocational students in Chang-Jung High School, Tainan, Taiwan

This study aimed to examine the existence or relationship between academic performance and each of these variables: locus of control, academic motivation, and study habits and attitudes. Three tests, namely: Locus of Control, Academic Motivation Inventory, and Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes were administered to 176 vocational high school students of Chang Jung High School, Tainan, Taiwan. The Pearson product moment and Cramer\u27s Coefficient were used to determine the relationship of the students\u27 academic performance with the three variables. Results showed a significant correlation between academic performance and study habits and attitudes only. Correlation between academic performance and locus of control as well as academic motivation was not significant. The non-parametric analysis of the data also showed a non-significant relationship between academic performance and the three variables. It is suggested that other studies examining the relationship between academic performance and other factors be conducted to obtain a satisfactory evaluation of the problem
