A proposed testing program for Central Mindanao University High School and predictive validity of Central Mindanao University High School (CMUHS) entrance test

This study investigates the following: a) the testing needs of the students, teachers and counselor in Central Mindanao University High School b) the human and technical resources of the University in supporting the putting up of a testing program. Finally, a proposed testing program was made based on the findings of the study to meet the basic testing requirements of the students, teachers and counselor. The survey method was used to assess the status, needs and facilities of the school in putting up a testing program. The respondents of the study were the University High School students from the first year to the fourth year (239), and the teachers (30) who were selected by simple random sampling, and the eight administrators who were all interviewed. The data were drawn by means of interview schedule/questionnaire which contained structured and unstructured questions based on the objectives of the study. Percentages, frequency counts and ranks were used to describe the information drawn from the respondents. The data revealed that Central Mindanao High School had no organized testing program. It had only a locally made entrance test used for selective admission purposes during the past five years. Recently, aptitude and interests tests were administered to third and fourth year students of the school. While the teachers, students and administrators did not fully comprehend an organized testing program, they were in consensus in recognizing the relevance of a testing program as one of the services that should be provided by the school. In this connection, the students and the teachers recommended the following tests to meet their testing needs : a) Mental Maturity Test b) Achievement Test c) Interest Inventory d) Aptitude Test and, e) Personality and Mental Health.In terms of technical and human resources, the University, especially the high school was short of qualified manpower.
