An investigation of three academic areas based on one output and two input factors in the high school department of St. Paul School of Aparri

This study is an investigation of three academic areas based on one output and two input factors in the high school department of St. Paul School of Aparri which aims to improve instruction in English, Mathematics, and Science. The descriptive-normative method of research was employed in this study. The respondents included 40 seniors in the school year 1975-76 who had been studying at St. Paul School of Aparri from first to fourth year high school 9 teachers in English, Mathematics, and Science and 2 administrators. Data were gathered from the students\u27 records and questionnaires. The relationships between the NCEE scores and the high school grades in English, Mathematics, and Science were determined using Pearson\u27s product-moment coefficient of correlation. The competencies of the teachers in the three subject areas were evaluated by the administrators, students, and the teachers\u27 self-evaluation. Also, the instructional materials, facilities, and class activities used for instruction and judged by both the students and teachers to be most beneficial for instruction were determined. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that high school grades were reliable measures of student performance and were good predictors of NCEE performance. It was also found that the mean scores in science were low compared with those in English and mathematics. There was an apparent deficiency in methodology, which suggested the need to upgrade the teachers in the three subject areas, and to update instructional materials, facilities, and class activities
