This study investigated what constituted excessive hiya and the efficacy of psychoeducational group in reducing the shyness of the college two-phase study had focus group discussion among 14 college students and survey among 10 college counselors in the first phase. Qualitative data of phase 1 was content analyzed, categorized and frequencies were recorded. The results revealed that excessive hiya among college students chiefly constitute of their high levels of anxiety, irrational beliefs and depression. The experimental second phase involved 43 college undergraduate students between 18- 20 years of age.
