Off-grid renewable energy systems provide opportunities to give electricity and other utilities to remote communities. Such communities may not have access to electricity, cooling, and purified water, or may require diesel-powered generators for such requirements. Mini- or micro-hydroelectric plants can be the core of facilities to meet these needs where there are sufficiently large rivers and favourable terrain.
