Iranian Revolution 1979 in the light of Philosophy of History

The field of philosophy of history constantly observes the form and process of historical movement. Philosophy of history is defined as a discipline which searches for the results and reasons for the happening of an event and constructs its historical significance (William Dray, 1964: 1). Analysis in philosophy of history constantly requires supportive evidence from the historical treasures accumulated in historiographical literature. The 1979 Iranian Revolution proves that a historical process lasting almost 2 years from 1978 to 1979 resulted in a significant historical development in 20th Century human modern civilization. This article presents the process of a historical movement lasting throughout the revolution which resulted in the event, phenomenon and birth of a new nation founded on Shia religio-political ideology. Using modern historiographical literature from the works of Keddie (1995), Mortimer (1984), Esposito (1996), Mandaville (2007), al-Musawi (1978), Calder (2008), Hunter (2001), Akhavi (2008), Shadmehr (2012), Moin (1995), Mutahhari (1983), Roy (1994) and Cole (2002), this article attempts to outline the resulting historical movement and its impact on the Muslim world
