THE TECHNIQUES USED TO TEACH ENGLISH VOCABULARY FOR YOUNG LEARNERS AT ISLAMIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KURNIA KOTA JAMBI

This thesis discusses the techniques used by teacher in teaching English vocabulary to young learners at Islamic Elementary School Kurnia Kota Jambi. This research is a qualitative research, the research was conducted with three data collection techniques: observation, interviews and documentation. The data source of this study was an English teacher at Islamic Elementary School Kurnia Kota Jambi and the research subjects were 13 5th grade students of Islamic Elementary School Kurnia Kota Jambi. The findings revealed that the teacher applied various techniques in teaching vocabulary which divided into three stages. For presenting new words, using flashcard and miming are preferred by the teacher in this study. In getting students to practice the words they have learn, the teacher mostly employed identifying and matching task. For the final stage in teaching vocabulary, producing, the teacher familiarized both creation in sentence and text
