DESIGNING READING MATERIAL FOR EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF ISLAMIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL NURUDDIN KUALA TUNGKAL

The objective of this research was to design a handout which consists of reading text to teach English for Eighth Grade students of Islamic Junior High School Nuruddin Kuala Tungkal. This study was categorized into research and development (R&D). This study was conducted at eight grade student of Islamic Junior High School Nuruddin Kuala Tungkal. The procedures of this study based on 40 models which consist of four stages, they were; define, design, develop and disseminate. However, due to the limitation of the researcher, the last step "disseminate" was not done. The results of the data were in the form of descriptive qualitative data obtained using questionnaire. The reading learning materials were revised based on the experts' suggestions. The learning materials consist of two units. The first unit was about recount text and the second unit was about narrative text which was appropriate for teaching English reading materials for eight grade student ofIslamic Junior High School Kuala Tungkal have the following features. The text used in the materials is about daily activities and short storytelling, which is completed by exercise in the form of multiple choice and essay, the result of the data computation of the expert judgment shows that the category of the designed learning material is very goo
