THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THINK-TALK-WRITE ON STUDENTS DESCRIPTIVE WRITING AT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL PGRI 2 JAMBI CITY

This study is aimed to find out the effectiveness of think-talk-write on students’ descriptive writing at Junior High School PGRI 2 Jambi City. This research was quantitative research and it was conducted by using quasy-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design which two classes as experimental class and control class which consisted 58 students. The instrument which is used by the researcher is pre-test and post-test and the data are collected by students’ writing test. The result of this research shows that there was significant effect on students’ writing skill in descriptive text after being taught through Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy. This could be seen from the T- test result which showed that the students mean score of pre-test in control class is 43,06 and the students mean score of pre-test in experimental class is 43,51 but the students mean score of post-test in control class is 69,34 meanwhile the students mean score in experimental class is 78,62, higher than pre-test is 69,34. In the value sig (2-tailed) was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05. The value of t0 was 5.847 and df was 56. The t0 obtained is compared to t table either at 5%. At value 5% t table was 2.144. Based on the table, it can be analyzed that t0 is higher than t table either at level 5%. In other words, we can read 5.847>2.144. So the researcher can conclude that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means there was significant difference of students’ writing skill in descriptive text among the students who were taught using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy and those who were not. The researcher hope for other researchers who want to conduct the research in teaching writing they could analyze the students’ writing in narrative or recount text
