THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CLUSTERING TECHNIQUE ON STUDENTS WRITING COMPETENCIES AT SMAN 02 MUARO JAMBI

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of clustering technique on students’ writing competencies at SMAN 02 Muaro Jambi. In order to achieve the objective of this study, the researcher designs a quasi-experiment using pre-test and post-test. The population of this study the tenth grade students of SMAN 02 Muaro Jambi which consist 187 students. The sample of this study is class IPA 1 as control group that consist of 32, and IPA 2 as experimental group that consist of 32 students. Before the experiment was conducted, the students were given a pre-test for both groups. At the experiment, each group was given a post-test. The result shows that the sample was 64 students. Based on the previous computation, the mean score of experimental group is 78.41 and the mean of control group is 71.16. Too see whether the hypothesis is accepted or rejected, the t-value is consulted to the t-table at the 0,05 significance level. It shows that the t-table is 1.999 and the t-value is 3.745.It means that t-value is higher than t-table, which is 3.745 > 1.999. It is stated that there was a significant effect on students’ writing competence of descriptive text
