THE INFLUENCE OF READING HABIT AND GRAMMAR MASTERY ON STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY AT ENGLISH EDUCATION PROGRAM

This research aims to investigate the influence of (1) reading habit on the students‟ of writing ability, (2) grammar ability on the students‟ writing ability, and (3) reading habit, grammar mastery on the students‟ writing ability. This research is quatitative research, involving two independent variables andone dependent variable. The population comprised the fourth semester students of English Education Program UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi in academic year 2017/2018. Consisting of 55 students. The data were collected through a reading habit questionnaire, test of grammar mastery, writing descriptive test. A prerequisite analysis was conducted before the analysis of multiple linier regressions. Based on regression analysis, it can be concluded that reading habit influence the students writing ability ( rcount > rtable or 0,875>0,266) it means there was significance influence between reading habit and students‟ writing ability. Grammar mastery influences the students‟ writing students‟ writing ability ( rcount > rtable or 0,870>0,266)). Reading habit and grammar mastery influence the students‟ writing ability ( Fcount > Ftable or 21,93 > 2,21)
