THE SURVIVAL STRATEGIES OF THE MAIN CHARACTER IN THE FILM AMERICAN SNIPER BY CLINT EASTWOOD

American Sniper is a film based on a true story. The film tells about war in Iraq. The problem is Chris Kyle as main character who sent to the Iraq, he has leaved his family. He must make good decision to survival even he had difficult situation. This case is important to discuss because someone who is in the war should be able to survive in any conditions. The aims of this research are: (1) to find out kinds of survival strategies are used by main character in the film American Sniper, (2) to find out the ways main character survives his life in the war zone as seen in the film American Sniper, and (3) to find out the effects of the main character used survival strategies in the film American Sniper. This research used qualitative research and descriptive method. This research uses psychological approach and applies objective theory. Documentation technique is used for collecting the data and descritive analysis technique for analyzing the data. Source of data from this research is American Sniper film. The result of research show that: (1) Kinds of Survival strategies used by Chris, Physical Survival Needs, (eating to increase energy, rest to maintain stamina), Physical safety Needs, (feeling safe from danger and the environment), Love and Belongingness Needs ( love for a partner), Self Esteem Needs (a sense of respect for others). (2) Chris Kyle survives in war zones by making planning, drive war, raid tactics, move troops, various tactics, warriors, use spies. (3) Effect of Chris used survival strategies are making him more confident and more patient
