ASEAN FREE TRADE AREA (AFTA): PERAN MANAJEMEN PENDIDIKAN ISLAM TERHADAP PENGEMBANGAN CHARACTER BUILDING DI KOTA JAMBI

Asean Free Trade Area (AFTA) is a form of cooperation Asean countries which are intended to strengthen the local economy for these countries. AFTA is seen to have an impact on community resilience. The article explained that AFTA has the opportunity, challenge and implication for the formation of the nation character, especially in Indonesia, especially with the influx of foreign culture under the pretext of an open economy among the people of these countries. This condition worsens join 'social order' and create 'a new competitor in the country'. This article aims to look at the views of society towards AFTA, AFTA impact on the nation character and the role of Islamic Education Management. This research was conducted in Jambi city. Theoretical framework developed based on society's view of AFTA, AFTA impact on the nation character, and the role of Islamic Education Management. There are 20 people sampled with details of five businessmen, 5 persons Civil servants, 5 politicians and 5 people as educators. This study uses Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and correlation. The results has shown that overall the public's view of AFTA are at a higher stage (min = 3.45), in addition, the impact of AFTA on the nation character is at the stage of simple (min = 3.25). Research also shown society's view of the role of Islamic education management at the stage of the high stage (min = 3.52). Thus it can be said that the overall implication of AFTA to the development of character in Jambi city have significant implications
