Abstract A review of literature is known to provide information which is used to investigate a topic of importance find out what is already known about a particular topic in order to improve teaching practices or simply as basis for conducting a research study. The present paper explores and examines the mechanics and the relevance of literature review in the field of English literature. A literature review helps to develop research questions and helps the researcher to become acquainted with the strengths and weaknesses of methods used in prior research.
