<h3 data-fontsize="17" data-lineheight="23">Abstract</h3> <p>In her novel The Namesake Jhumpa Lahiri talks about the South Asian diasporic community with the conception of gender empowerment, thereby providing the individuality to all the women characters. The women in her novelsare at times fiercely strong, assertive, fiery and individualistic. These women characters have chiseled the heroic characters by outdoing the men counterpart and had at times tried to defy the traditional dogmas and the standards of the society.
