Circumferencing New Dimensions in Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake

<h3 data-fontsize="17" data-lineheight="23">Abstract</h3> <p>In her novel The Namesake Jhumpa Lahiri talks about the South Asian diasporic community with the conception of gender empowerment, thereby providing the individuality to all the women characters. The women in her novelsare at times fiercely strong, assertive, fiery and individualistic. These women characters have chiseled the heroic characters by outdoing the men counterpart and had at times tried to defy the traditional dogmas and the standards of the society. With their stepping into the new land, she has canvased new horizons for her characters moving along with the commitments, spiritual values and seek fulfilment. The protagonists of Jhumpa Lahiri offer a sort of stubborn resistance to the world’s outrage that could be found in any strata of the society. Also she has given the freedom to the protagonists to develop themselves from time to time, being independent and choose their own freedom thereby taking their own decisions without hampering and taking into consideration the core values of the family. It outlines the diasporic strategy as well as the resistance of the gender. Lahiri depicts the diasporic struggle of the culture that the characters keep hold of, as they tend to create new lives in the foreign land.</p&gt
