Search for the Roots in Indian Diasporic Writing

Abstract Indian Diasporic literature with its presence all over the world is one of the most talked about and discussed topics in world literature today. Inclusion in curriculums of colleges and universities world over is the hallmark which tells us about the popularity of it. Displaced communities and their settlement elsewhere play a dominant role in it. From Indentured labourers to educated people wishing for a better life in other countries, all comes under the scope of Indian Diasporic literature. This paper is an attempt to study the portrayal of it in literature, mainly in the key-texts of leading writers such as V.S. Naipaul, Salman Rushdie, Amitav Ghosh, Jumpa Lahiri, etc.Rootlessness and searching for the roots become synonymous in these writers. The search for ‘home’ and the transformation of the identities are an integral part of diasporic discussion and the aforesaid writers deliver the same with much efficiency
