Detailed geologic mapping of two 7.5-minute quadrangles in Fayette County, Tennesse, and sedimentological analysis of obtained samples of the Eocene Memphis Sand have been performed to assess the locations of Memphis Sand outcrops, whether the facies are stratigraphically continuous in the outcrop region, the depositional characteristics and sediment source of the Memphis Sand, and what can be inferred about direct recharge into the Memphis aquifer. The Memphis Sand is a fluvial sand with mixed a mixed sediment source that can be separated into the upper, middle, and lower informal members.
