The European Union became involved in Afghanistan shortly after the US invaded the country in order to remove the Taliban government and destroy the Al-Qaeda training camps. The European aid concentrated primarily on reconstruction, agricultural development and providing basic medical care to all people of Afghanistan. EU specifically concentrated on providing internal security trough the European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL Afghanistan), however, multiple factors and circumstances prevented achievement of all goals.
