The purpose of this study was to compare the self concept of battered women with the self concept of non-battered women. The researcher hypothesized that there would be no significant difference between the self concept of battered women and the self concept of non-battered women. Twenty-five women were surveyed utilizing the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale: 15 subjects who had not been victims of battering and 10 subjects who were victims of battering. Voluntary participants were solicited from the Spouse Abuse Network and from a graduate nursing program.
