This article aimed to analyze the emancipatory ideological character of the Solidarity Economy policy adopted in Brazil between 2002 and 2013 in the light of the concept of social emancipation from a "Marxian" perspective. This study, which is qualitative, was based on the methodological contributions of Godoi, Bandeira-de-Mello e Silva (2006). Initially, classical articles dealing with the concept of emancipation were consulted, such as those by Marx, Engels and Gramsci. Then, it focused on contemporary articles on Solidarity Economy, such as those by Singer, Santos and Barbosa.
