The present article proposes to expose reflections obtained as a result of bibliographical research seeking to think about the relevance of Sociology Teaching as an instrument of education and reduction of discrimination and ethnic-racial violence at the school. Starting from a succinct recovery of the history of Sociology Teaching in Basic Education, it is proposed a reflection on its instability in the curriculum and its short time of existence - from 2008 - in order to promote the production of instruments and teaching methodologies that contribute to the formation of the teacher and the strengthening of Sociology as a school discipline.
