This paper seeks to explore the validity of the notion of « post-romanticism » when applied to novels from the second half of the 19th Century such as Flaubert’s L’Education sentimentale and Prus’ The Doll (Lalka). By using the prefix “post”, we do not aim to foreclose new literary categories based on selected common features, nor are we trying to reshape 19th Century literary history: we rather want to shed some light on the set of processes occurring in novels in which the core aesthetical and political objects are fundamentally associated with a troubled and obsessive relationship with Romanticism.Cet article cherche à explorer la validité de la notion de «post-romantisme» appliquée à des romans de la seconde moitié du XIXe siè...
