Adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are a diverse superfamily of transmembrane proteins found in all eukaryotes. These proteins couple the hydrolysis of ATP to the transport of a wide variety of substrates across cellular membranes. In plants, ABC type B (ABCB) transporters have been shown to be involved in the transport of both growth regulators (auxin) and secondary metabolites.
