This research focused on the effect of using Role, Audience, Format and Topic (RAFT) Strategy on writing hortatory exposition text mastery at grade XI students of SMAN 3 Padangsidimpuan. The students’ problems in writing were: 1) limited on vocabulary, 2) less comprehension about grammar, 3) difficulty in finding the ideas and 4) most of them did not know the easier strategy in writing.
