The Evaluation of Sporting Success in Turkey The Example of Baku European Games

Due to increasing competitiveness in the sports, the successes achieved in the international competitions are worldwide known in todays world. Sports display a growing influence on the society and thus media’s increasing attention on the competitions enhance the importance of these occasions and prove itself as a reason of pride and prestige for the successful countries. Variety of researches revealed the different factors that affecting sporting achievement in the high level competitions just as Olympics. Although there was a common opinion about population and economic conditions have a great effect on international sporting success, the increasing competition between countries emerged the need of using strategical methods especially in training and development of elite sportsmen. Differently from the macro level factors, strategies and policies that can be controlled and supervised by the governments and which can display long-lasting success in the sports remain essential for the countries. This research aimed to analyze the sporting performance of Turkey in the 1st European Games in Baku, in consideration of previous literature and the country’s specific sports policies and strategies. To attain sporting success, Turkey should implement sports policies based on scientific facts and cultural differences which make individuals to benefit from the sport most efficiently
