Oil transport through the cylinder piston route has important implications in internal combustion engines. The amount of oil available affects power loss due to friction, wear of cylinder components and piston ring performance. On the other hand, it has been shown that engine oil contributes to burned and unburned hydrocarbon emissions. In this study, the flow of gas and oil through the ring end gaps were modelled. The pressure in the 2nd and 3rd inter-ring land space volumes, the gas mass flow rates at 1st, 2nd and 3rd piston ring end gaps were computed to analyse the blowback oil consumption mechanism. Models for liquid entrainment into the gas flow were integrated to predict oil loss into the gas. The result showed that the oil film thic...
