Rentable housing in Turkey is provided by the private rented sector. There is no provision of 105rental housing and publicly owned rental stock in the country. The private rented sector is large enough to accommodate almost 28 percent of urban households in the country. This paper investigates problems in the private rented sector related to affordability, quality of housing and residential environment. Households’ subjective evaluations are analysed over 2009-2014 period employing the Income and Living Conditions Survey data of the Turkish Statistical Institute.
