The purpose of this study was to investigate pre-service mathematics teachers’ mathematization process in a mathematical modeling activity. The process was investigated in two different levels of mathematization based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) framework namely, horizontal mathematization and vertical mathematization. This study designed as a case study. The participants of the study were six pre-service elementary mathematics teachers enrolled in a course entitled “Mathematical Modeling for Teachers”.
