Underground coal mine accidents result in many losses which directly reflects to the cost of mining. The randomness in the appearance of the accidents can be determined by frequency that considers how often a specific type of the accident may occur and the severity of the accident in which a financial loss arises resulted from the occurrence of the accident. Modelling these two basic variables statistically enables the researchers to estimate the probability of future losses and to determine the risk factor of the specific type of accidents. In this paper a risk assessment approach is considered to evaluate the risk profile in Tuncbilek underground coal mine in Turkey by using last four years of accident data
