La provisión pontificia de beneficios eclesiásticos en el reino de Castilla durante el período aviñonés: estado de la investigación

In this paper we made an assessment on the state of the art, still ongoing, about the research on the papal benefice policy in the kingdom of Castile at the time of the papacy from Avignon. During this period, occurred a more quantitative than qualitative growth in terms of this benefice policy, becoming increasingly frequent the presentation of petitions by various powers requesting the grant of benefices in Castile in favour of certain clerics, which favoured the expansion of complex patronage networks affecting the Castilian clergy. In addition, it has become more frequent, particularly after John XXII, the procedure of papal reservation, not always according to the monarchy, for the election of bishops, consolidating this process at the time of Urban V. Finally, we highlight the fact that this extraordinary increase of papal provisions of benefits is directly related to the increasing development of papal taxation, and in fact it is estimated that a very important part of the revenues of the Apostolic Chamber proceeded from fees related to the conferral of benefices. The article concludes with a selection of specific literature on the subject studied.No presente trabalho é feito um balanço do estado da investigação, ainda em curso, sobre a política beneficial papal no reino de Castela na época do papado de Avinhão. Durante o período avinhonense ocorreu um desenvolvimento mais quantitativo que qualitativo da política beneficial, tornando-se cada vez mais frequente a apresentação de súplicas por parte de diversas instâncias de poder solicitando a concessão de beneficios em Castela a favor de determinados clérigos, o que por sua vez favoreceu a expansão das complexas redes clientelares que afectavam o clero castelhano. A par disso, tornou-se mais frequente o procedimento de reserva pontifícia, nem sempre de acordo com a monarquia, na eleição dos bispos, sobretudo a partir de João XXII, consolidando-se este processo na época de Urbano V. Finalmente, destaca-se o facto de que este aumento extraordinário das provisões papais de benefícios se relaciona directamente com o crescente desenvolvimento da fiscalidade pontifícia e, de facto, estima-se que uma parte muito importante das receitas da Câmara Apostólica procedia das taxas relacionadas com a colação de benefícios.
