Santidade e reforma da Igreja no Concílio Vaticano II

The theme of reform entered discussion of the sanctity of the Church as the vision of the Church became enriched and attempts were made to resolve the hypothetical incompatibility between Church sanctity and Church reform. The fermentation of these ideas reached the 2nd Vatican Council and continued afterwards. In this study we examine the presence of the idea of reform in relation to the sanctity of the Church in the texts of the 2nd Vatican Council. The Council documents allow for various readings on the relationship between sanctity and reform in the Church, but do not take on board all of the possibilities to be found in earlier theological debate. After the Council we find three different ways of including reform in discussions of the sanctity of the Church: the first sees reform as a consequence of the dynamism of sanctity within the Church, the second affirms that it is not possible to speak of form without admitting the presence of sin in the Church, and, lastly, the third relates reform to the historical condition of the Church, which follows a path on earth towards its plenitude. The majority of theologians use one or, more rarely a number of these solutions. A fermentação destas ideias chegou ao Concílio Vaticano II e continuou depois dele. Neste estudo analisamos a presença da ideia de reforma enquanto relacionada com a santidade da Igreja nos textos do Concílio Vaticano II. Os documentos conciliares permitem várias leituras sobre a relação da santidade com a reforma da Igreja, mas não assumem todas as possibilidades que encontramos no debate teológico anterior. Depois do Concílio encontramos três modos diferentes de incluir a reforma no discurso sobre a santidade da Igreja: o primeiro vê a reforma como consequência do dinamismo da santidade no interior da Igreja, o segundo afirma que não é possível falar de reforma sem admitir a presença do pecado na Igreja e, enfim, o terceiro relaciona a reforma com a condição histórica da Igreja, que caminha na terra em direcção à sua plenitude. A maioria dos teólogos usa uma ou, menos frequentemente, várias destas soluções. Ainda não é possível afirmar que se tenha chegado a um consenso
