The proteins of the eggshell or chorion of Bombyx mori, its putative ancestor Bombyx mandarina, and the offspring after crossing of these species were analyzed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. Some of the high cysteine (Hc) proteins were found to be specific to B. mandarina. This feature was co-dominantly inherited in the F1The overall traits of chorion proteins in BF1 were found to segregate with those of the larval body color, indicating that, like B. mori, the chorion genes are also linked to the body color (p) locus in B. mandarina.
