The focus of this paper is the therapeutic use of program concepts patterned after the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous in Strategic Therapy. Specifically, it addresses the problems that can emerge when a client is simultaneously involved in AA and marital therapy. A detailed case analysis illustrates how the language and concepts of AA type programs can enhance strategic therapy, and highlights clinical strategies that can be utilized when a client\u27s involvement in an AA type program appears to inhibit progress in strategic couples\u27 therapy. © 1992 by The Haworth Press, Inc.
