A microcomputer software system has been developed as a tool to help design engineers in the design of products which are to be assembled efficiently using general-purpose robots. The software gives rapid feed back of manufacturing costs for any particular product, identifies difficulties in robot assembly and gives an overall efficiency rating for the product design. A powerful spreadsheet editor is used to determine the effects of possible design changes on assembly difficulty and cost
