The development of Russian theatrical life in the capitals (Moscow, Petersburg) and in the province (example Saratov) during the silver age 1914 - 1920.

The thesis is devoted to the examination of the opposition "centre - periphery" in the theatrical life of Russia during the Silver age. The research defines the principal conceptual structures - "Frames" (particularly the notion of "creation of life"), wich had an influence on Russian culture at the beginning of the XX century and made up its paradigm. The research introduces the everyday events of the theatrical life in both capitals and in the provincial town of Saratov as the essential part of the general cultural process in Russia. The author investigates the causes of the crisis in the Russian theatre from 1890 to1900, compares the various methods and principles of the produktion in the K. Stanislavstij`s, V. Meyerhold`s, A. Tairov`s, N. Evreinov`s stage work and considers their attitude to the notion "theatricality" on the basis of the Evreinov`s books "Theatre as it is", "Theatre for itself" (1912). The theatrical life in the provincial Saratov from 1914 to 1920 is analysed chronologically, namely the activity of opera- and drama companies, the most significant producers and actors; the building of the new theatrical system after the Oktoberrevolution in 1917.The "macro-epoche" of the "Russian Renaissance" and the "micro-period" (6 seasons) of the provincial theatrical life in Saratov are analysed parallel, and this investigation demonstrates the intensity and quickness with wich the periphery responds to artistic innovations in Moscow and Petersburg. At the end of the exploring period from 1914 to 1920, the "typical" provincial town Saratov became an independent theatrical center and the counterpart to the both capitals. The documentary sources of the exploration are kept in the Saratov State Archives, in the archives of the Saratov Chernyshevskij opera-house , Saratov Karl Marx drama theatre, and also in private archives. The presentation of the general artistic-intellectual context is founded on the most important explorations devoted to the Silver age and published in Russia and Europe.
