This qualitative study explores the meanings and uses of representations of Brazil and Brazilian-ness, relying on cultural analysis of music reviews and news in The New York Times and other U.S. newspapers published between 2001 and 2006, a time frame that reflects the reordering of the role of the U.S. after 9/11, when it reinforced its position as the dominant global power in the early Twenty-First Century. The study analyzes how representations resonate within other print media outlets, which illustrates how cultural dominance is disseminated in a reinforcing cycle of production.
