Parenting styles, marital satisfaction and dyadic adjustment: An exploratory study

Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo investigar las relaciones entre los estilos de crianza percibidos, la satisfacción conyugal y el ajuste diádico. 157 participantes respondieron los siguientes instrumentos: Escala de satisfacción conyugal, Escala de estilos de crianza y Escala de ajuste diádico. Los participantes fueron parejas que se declararon casadas (legalmente o no). Los principales datos sobre la demanda y la capacidad de respuesta de los padres y los estilos de crianza revelan que los participantes que más percibían a sus padres como exigentes (r = 0,20, p <0,05) y receptivos (r = 0,19, p <0,05) fueron las parejas más cohesionadas; los participantes que percibieron a sus padres como negligentes tuvieron medias más bajas en la Escala de Ajuste Diádico (F = 2.455, p <0.05). En cuanto a la satisfacción conyugal, los principales resultados muestran que los participantes que percibieron a sus padres como negligentes tuvieron una baja satisfacción conyugal y aquellos que percibieron a sus padres como autoritarios tuvieron una alta satisfacción conyugal (c2 = 27,947; p <0,01). Los participantes con mayor ajuste diádico (c2 = 54,752; p <0,01) también fueron los que mostraron una alta satisfacción marital. La posible influencia del estilo parental percibido por los participantes en la relación de pareja, la satisfacción conyugal y el ajuste diádico, así como las claras correlaciones entre los aspectos de ajuste y la satisfacción de la pareja, es decir, los cónyuges más ajustados, también más satisfechos.This research intended to investigate possible relations among the perceived parental styles, marital satisfaction and dyadic adjustment. Altogether, 157 participants answered the following instruments: Marital Satisfaction Scale, Parenting styles Scale and the Dyadic Adjustment Sscale. The participants were couples who declared themselves married (legally or not). The main data regarding the parents’ demanding and responsiveness and the parental styles reveal that the participants who perceived their parents as demanding (r=0,20, p<0,05) and responsiveness (r=0,19, p<0,05) the most were the more cohesive couples and, the participants who perceived their parents (father and mother combined) with a more uninvolved style exhibited a low rate of marital satisfaction and the ones who perceived their parents as authoritative exhibited a high rate of marital satisfaction (c2=27, 947 gl=6, p<0,01). The more dyadically adjusted couples (c2=54,752, gl=2, p<0,01) were also the ones who exhibited a high rate of marital satisfaction. It was possible to conclude with such data the possible influence of the marital style perceived by the participants in the couple’s relationship, in the marital satisfaction and in the dyadic adjustment, as well as the clear correlations between aspects of the adjustment and the couple’s satisfaction, that is, the more adjusted the partners, the more satisfied. However, the data raise multiple questions to be answered indicating the relevance of the studies on the topic.Esta pesquisa objetivou investigar relações entre estilos parentais percebidos, a satisfação conjugal e o ajustamento diádico. 157 participantes responderam os seguintes instrumentos: Escala de Satisfação conjugal, Escala de Estilos Parentais e Escala de Ajustamento Diádico.
