Sistematic review: Use of Tehrapeutic Robots for 4-12 year- olds with autism spectrum disorders in promotion of communication and social skills

Darba mērķis: Sistemātiski apkopot un analizēt pieejamos pētījumus par terapeitisko robotu izmantošanas metodi 4 – 12 gadus veciem bērniem ar autiskā spektra traucējumiem komunikācijas un sociālo prasmju pilnveidei. Pētījuma metodes: Datu vākšanai izmantotās datubāzes: ProQuest, Wiley Online Libary, PubMed, ScienceDirect. Pētījuma iekļauti brīvpieejas pētījumi pilnā apjomā, kas nav vecāki par 10 gadiem, un kuri atbilst iekļaušanas kritērijiem. Pētījumu novērtēšanai izmantota PEDro skala. Rezultāti: Sistemātiskajā pārskatā tika analizēti trīs pētījumi, kuros tika pētīta robotu iedarbība un prasmēm, kas tiešā veidā saistītas ar socializāciju un komunikāciju, kā arī iegūtie rezultāti pētījumos salīdzināti ar klasisku terapeita vadītu terapiju un vienā no tiem, papildus, ar datorizētu ierīci. Vienā pētījumā rezultāti salīdzināti papildus ar tipiskas attīstības bērniem. Divi no pētījumiem apstiprina robotu pozitīvo ietekmi un sociālajām un komunikācijas spējām, viens pētījums uzrāda apšaubāmus rezultātus par terapijas ieguvuma noturību ārpus sesiju laika. Secinājumi: Robota iejaukšanās pastiprina sociālās un komunikācijas spējas, bet negarantē noturīgu rezultātu ārpus noteikto sesiju laika, iespējams sesiju skaits būtu jāpalielina. Analizētie pētījumu rezultāti šobrīd nesniedz viennozīmīgus un statistiski ticamus rezultātus par robotu terapijas efektivitāti bērniem ar autiskā spektra traucējumiem. Tā kā robotikas joma ir jauna un perspektīva, būtu nepieciešams turpināt pētīt terapeitisko robotu ietekmi uz sociālajām un komunikācijas spējām, sadarbojoties ar vairāku nozaru speciālistiem. Target of the thesis: Systematically compile and analyse available studies on the method of using therapeutic robots in children 4 – 12 years of age with autism spectrum disorders for the development of communication and social skills. Research methodology: Database used for data collection: ProQuest, Wiley Online Libary, PubMed, ScienceDirect. The study includes full scale free access studies of less than 10 years of age and which meet criteria of inclusion. The PEDro scale has been used to evaluate the studies. Results: The systematic review analysed three studies examining the effects and skills of robots directly related to socialisation and communication, as well as the results obtained in the studies compared with classical therapist-led therapy and one of them, in addition, with a computer-assisted device. One study compared the results with children of typical development. Two of the studies confirm the positive effects of robots and their social and communication capabilities, one study shows questionable results on the resilience of therapy benefits outside sessions. Conclusions: Robot intervention reinforces social and communication capabilities, but doesn't guarantee sustainable outcomes beyond defined sessions, perhaps the number of sessions should be increased. The results of the studies analysed do not currently provide unambiguous and statistically reliable results on the effectiveness of robot therapy in children with abnormal autical spectrum. As the field of robotics is new and perspective, it would be necessary to further study the impact of therapeutic robots on social and communication capabilities, in cooperation with specialists from several sectors.
