The water absorption of tobacco is studied and classified in chemical, physico-chemical and mechanical absorption. On the basis of experimental data the quantities of water engaged in the different ways of absorption and their influence on the mechanical properties of tobacco are evaluated. Finally the question of the zero value in moisture content determination is discussed
