Abstract This research focuses on the role of ASEAN, as a regional organization, in handling rohingya refugees. The results show that ASEAN has barriers in carrying out its role in handling refugees, particularly the Rohingyas, which derive from the principle of non-internevention. ASEAN also needs to establish a mechanism for handling refugee based on agreement between member countries and cooperation with other international organization, and taking into account the provisions of international law relating to the mechanism of handling refugees themselves.
