In rural areas, young people have a major stake in how the natural, economic and social resources of their communities are developed. A major barrier to developing such an approach is the fact that rural development professionals often do not have a clear understanding of how young people in rural areas use local resources in their livelihood strategies. Also, there is a tendency to regard youth as a problem rather than a resource and a source of needed solutions.
