By participating in both the recruitment and activation of T lymphocytes, macrophages and neutrophils at the site of psoriatic inflammation, chemokines play an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis and, crucially, may be one indicator of the response to the systemic treatment of the disease. As a result of their major involvement in both physiological and pathological processes, both chemokines and their receptors have been identified as possible therapeutic targets.
