The expression 'Nepal' throughout the paper is used in the traditionally limited sense to include the Kathmandu Valley only, which embraces the three ancient cities of Kantipur, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur. The spacial dimension of the Kathmandu Valley is a little oval, elongated in shape, covering an area of 200 square miles. Nepal's contribution to the evolution and development of Buddhism art in Asia is of monumental significance relatively out of all proprtion to her small size and limited human and physical resources
