Heart transplantation is considered the gold standard treatment for selected patients with end-stage heart disease when medical therapy has been unable to halt progression of the underlying pathology. Scientific evidence suggests that cardiac rehabilitation (CR), with a focus on exercise, can be effective in reversing the consequences of previous physical deconditioning, pathophysiological changes associated with cardiac denervation and prevented adverse reactions induced by immunosuppression.
