Upplevelse av psykosocial arbetsmiljö och stress hos första linjens chefer inom särskilt boende och hemtjänst

The work environment constitutes a key social determinant of health. Many researchers show that a psychosocial work environment has a major impact on every individual’s health, especially work-related stress. Today, many organizations work to minimize the risks of this psychosocial work-related stress. There are still many first line managers/workers who suffer from psychosocial instabilities because of high demand, less experience of control and support at work. The purpose of this thesis is to understand managers experience of the psychosocial work environment and stress when working with elderly care and retirement homes. In this thesis a qualitative data collection method has been used, in the form of semi-structured interviews with 10 managers, working with elderly care and retirement homes. The material has been analyzed based on psychosocial work environment models. Important results found were that these managers do experience a stable psychosocial work environment but there can be a high workload during different periods of the year, which leads to manager are becoming stressed. The results showed that there is often a short-term stress in managers during these periods, but the control and support both from the organization and the environment provide a buffering effect against stress
