For a some decades, a new historiographical current has turned its attention to the transformations that, in the social, political and military spheres, prompted the Bourbon government in the early decades of the eighteenth century. Although largely unsuccessful, the reforms promoted in the first two decades between the Iberian Peninsula, Sicily, New Spain and Peru highlight an important first attempt to make the monarchy government more functional.
