Pour une anthropologie de la communication 7 : conclusions générales

The concepts of anthropology and communication have a number of interpretive elements and themes in common: the importance of relationships, the place of man in nature, the human way of knowing. There are also differences: ethics and violence are part of the anthropological domain, but not of communication. This does not prevent the SIC to claim that they have something new to say about mankind. So what could an anthropology of communication be? A sort of ethnography describing how individuals communicate? This is not enough. Communication research also includes presuppositions about humans which support its positions on the relationship with machines, the comprehension of information and the reception of the media. Finally one would define anthropology of communication as various images of human elements which exist more or less explicitly in the minds of researchers working in communications and to which they refer for their interpretation as well as their hypotheses. We therefore have not ONE SINGLE anthropology of communication but A RANGE OF anthropologies which form the basis of communications research. One needs to unearth them through an epistemological approach.Les notions d'anthropologie et de communication ont des éléments de définition et des thèmes communs : l'importance de la relation, la place de l'homme dans la nature, la manière humaine de connaître. Il y a aussi des différences : l'éthique ou la violence font partie du champ de l'anthropologie, mais pas de la communication. Cela n'empêche pas les SIC d'annoncer qu'elles ont à dire quelque chose de neuf sur l'humain. Alors, que pourrait être une anthropologie de la communication ? une sorte d'ethnographie décrivant la communication entre les individus ? C'est insuffisant. Les recherches en communication ont aussi des présupposés sur l'humain qui sous-tendent ce qu'elles disent de la relation à la machine, la compréhension d'informations ou la réception des médias. Pour finir, on définira l'anthropologie de la communication comme les différentes images de l'humain présente de manière plus ou moins explicite chez les chercheurs en communication et auxquelles ils se réfèrent pour leurs interprétations comme pour leurs hypothèses Il n'y a donc pas UNE anthropologie de la communication, mais DES anthropologies sous-tendant les recherches en communication. Les mettre à jour est un effort épistémologique nécessaire
